The following are the main areas of training available. All training is developed in consultation with school management to ensure provision of school-specific in-service.

DEVELOPING SCHOOL-WIDE SYSTEMS for BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

A School-Wide understanding of behaviour and a consistency of approach in supporting students with a higher level of need is fundamental for staff and students alike. All workshops are based on the NEWB Guidelines for Developing a Code of Behaviour and evidence based best practice.

YEAR HEAD AND TUTOR TRAINING

Tutors and Year Heads are pivotal roles in supporting staff and students to maximise teaching and learning. Solution Focused Approaches and Consistency are key elements in creating a positive school environment that supports success for all.

PEER MENTOR TRAINING

Peer Mentors can be an important support for students in their 1st year of Secondary School. Well trained Peer Mentors can assist 1st year students as they settle in to their new school routine. This support is especially important for those who experience difficulty during the transition process, from academic, organisational and social perspectives.

Peer Mentor training is skill based, liaising with school personnel to maximise the Peer Mentors leadership potential.

TEACHER - STUDENT MENTORING
A voluntary training programme to enhance school completion and engagement for the 10 - 15% of students who are disengaged and who often feel marginalised in our current school system. This training includes a Whole Staff introduction to the programme, followed by on-site solution-focused skill training for those staff who volunteer to support a student with on-going support for the school whilst the mentoring programme becomes established. The programme builds on and develops the positive relationships already present in the school.
 
                           

1st YEAR TRANSITION

The transition from primary to secondary school, whilst exciting and rewarding for many students, is a time of difficulty for many others, as they struggle to negotiate their new environment and the new skills that are needed for them to thrive and succeed.
Developing awareness of the Social-Emotional Aspects of Learning helps to improve our understanding of the many complex needs of our students and how we, as adults, can support those needs.
